Damn Phoeby you really created a deep poem from your pain and it’s quite beautiful. The line about the cats holds so much weight

That image haunted me for a long time, unfortunately. Thank you for the comment

Feels weird to hit the like button on that.

It stays with the reader as well.

But what works with such devastating imagery is that it suggests how nature has no mercy - the cat chose this to somehow survive, knowing her young wouldn’t or whatever the reason.

Phoeby, I'm proud of you for looking into the box and trying to figure out what the absence might have meant.

I like to believe that many things do happen for a reason, and rather than offering you a terrible childhood, the man who fathered you released you into what came out to be a happy childhood. But whatever the other path might have been, and whatever the reasons were, you are strong enough to see who you became, take this piece of theoretic paper and do with it what you now need to heal that wound. 🤗🙌

Thank you, Nicole. I believe that what needed healing has healed, considering that I’ve been struggling since last year to publish this deeply personal poem. And yes, I also believe that things in our lives do not happen by chance. I am grateful for the life I have. Hugs.

This poem truly resonated with me. We often linger to the what if’s and we stay there for so long that we forget to look at what healing can bring us. I can imagine this poem came from a very raw and vulnerable place so thank you for sharing it🤍 It’s truly an amazinf and moving piece

What a powerful poem Phoeby, and such strength and resolve to write this.

Beautiful writing in a raw, unfiltered and perfect way. 🫶

We rarely get to walk in the shoes of those who raised us. Because of that, I try to offer grace where I don’t fully understand and at least attempt to see what I cannot know. Forgiveness like yours is admirable — something I still hope to grow into someday.

You are absolutely right in what you said: I could not judge my mother for her decisions, nor the one who gave me life. I am grateful that I can experience this life. Beyond that, I believe it is no longer in our hands. Thank you so much for your deeply thoughtful and beautiful comment.

That is really moving. I can see how trying to make sense of all of that and the absence is such a hard thing to understand. For you to offer that forgiveness and look at it against the experiences you've had and how it affected you takes great strength.

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful, raw and honest piece.

Thank you, Gary. We have to look ahead, understanding the past without letting it consume us. Only that way, I believe, can we remain balanced. Have a lovely evening!

Hope you have a nice evening too, Phoeby.

This is heartbreaking, Phoeby. It takes so much courage to look into that Pandora’s box and to share it "How could I have longed

for an embrace

whose name I did not know?" that question left me speechless. Your writing is always getting better and deeper

Phoeby's avatar

Thank you, Nick. I hope my poem didn’t make you sad . In the end, we all go through all kinds of experiences meant to help us grow. Have a lovely evening!

If a poem can move someone, it’s a great poem, and yours truly is. Sadness and happiness are both so important so thank you for sharing, Phoeby!

Phoeby, your words unravel a lifetime of absence with startling clarity. The courage to speak “Father” and “I forgive you” echoes through the heart. You reveal how abandonment shapes identity and love, silently yet profoundly. This piece lingers, a haunting meditation on loss, choice, and the fragile self.

Thank you, Dawnithic, for your beautiful words. What takes shape within us from childhood onward, we may or may not discover later as adults, in our behaviors and in the choices we make.

It is exactly like that. Your topic today was also very important.✨

This feels cathartic. You’ve taken something that is part of you and turned it into art and that is beautiful.
